Dr. Torge Lorenz

Torge Lorenz is a Senior Researcher in the Offshore Operations & Logistics Group at Fraunhofer IWES. His work focuses on the analysis and modeling of offshore wind energy systems, particularly in the areas of operations and maintenance, offshore logistics, and yield and availability analyses. In this context, he develops and uses simulation-based models such as OffshoreTIMES and WRF to investigate technical and economic issues related to the planning, operation, and further development of offshore wind farms.

Offshore wind farms: How cross-border planning can increase energy yield

Offshore wind energy requires space. The closer wind farms are clustered together in the North Sea, the more they influence one another. In a scenario study commissioned by the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) and Federal Association of Offshore Wind Energy (BWO), we at Fraunhofer IWES investigated how relocating planned generation capacity from Germany’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) to Denmark and Sweden could reduce wake effects.
