His work focuses on the techno-economic evaluation of offshore wind energy projects and the development of data-driven decision-making and evaluation methods for energy infrastructure. He combines scientific research with strategic project development and supports national and international industry and research projects in the fields of offshore wind energy, operations & maintenance, the energy sector, and digital transformation.

Offshore wind farms: How cross-border planning can increase energy yield

Offshore wind energy requires space. The closer wind farms are clustered together in the North Sea, the more they influence one another. In a scenario study commissioned by the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) and Federal Association of Offshore Wind Energy (BWO), we at Fraunhofer IWES investigated how relocating planned generation capacity from Germany’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) to Denmark and Sweden could reduce wake effects.
