Dr.-Ing. Florian Hans

Dr.-Ing. Florian Hans is a Senior Scientist for Electrical System Integration at Fraunhofer IWES. He holds a doctoral degree in control engineering from Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany. Since joining the Group Power Electronics and Grid Integration at Fraunhofer IWES in 2021, he has worked as lead engineer for the grid emulator at DyNaLab, supported measurement campaigns for grid compliance testing, and commissioned new PHIL infrastructure, including the 80 MVA grid simulator, Mobile Grid. His current research focuses on enabling large-scale real-time EMT simulations of offshore wind farms and hybrid power parks, as well as developing advanced methods for testing grid-following and grid-forming units on PHIL test benches.

From requirements to reality: testing grid-forming capabilities in the multi-MW range in accordance with the VDE FNN Guideline

Fraunhofer IWES is testing a grid-forming multi-MW battery storage system in accordance with VDE FNN Guideline 2.1 for the first time, paving the way for providing inertia in the power grid of the future.
