Other Definitions

The security incident management cycle encompasses the following seven elements:

  1. Pro-action, the structural removal of insecurity and dangerous situations.
  2. Prevention, actions to avoid an incident or to intervene to stop an incident from occurring.
  3. Preparation, the planning, training and exercising.
  4. (Incident) Response, activities in response to the immediate and short-term effects, and to prevent further damage after an incident occurs.
  5. Recovery
  6. Aftercare: mitigate the psycho-sociological impact of an incident to (parts of) the population, and (optionally) incident reporting and the identification of the lessons identified)

In case of a (possible) deliberate act in parallel when a (potential) incident occurs:

  1. forensic analysis, criminal investigation, and the prosecution of suspects.
