Warren Watson

Warren Watson is a senior researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES) and has been working on measurement methods in wind energy since 2020. His work focuses on the characterization of turbulence and lidar-based wind measurement, with a particular emphasis on floating lidar systems. He has contributed to numerous research, development, and industry projects in this field. In addition to his work at Fraunhofer IWES, Warren Watson is pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of Bremen. His dissertation focuses on turbulence characterization in wind resource assessment. In this work, he is investigating motion compensation in floating lidar systems and the use of microwave radiometry.

Turning motion into information: turbulence measurements using the N-beam method

For several years, we at Fraunhofer IWES have been working on removing the influence of the floating lidar system’s motion from wind measurements as accurately as possible. A deterministic motion correction developed for this purpose now forms the basis for another approach: the N-beam method.
