About KTL

The Klassifikation therapeutischer Leistungen in der medizinischen Rehabilitation (KTL) is a German terminology for coding therapeutical rehabilitation services. It consists of two code systems:

  • KTL Codes: KTL codes set up a hierarchical terminology. Only the leaf nodes (codes made up from a letter and 3 digits) are valid for coding.
  • Time Duration: Duration codes (single letter) are used for coding the duration of a service.

While the printed version of the KTL Codes assigns descriptive properties to level-3-codes (letter and 2 digits), the normative Excel-sheet links these codes to the leaf nodes which are used for coding therapeutical services. The KTL Codes terminology provided through CTS2-LE implements these properties as defined in the normative KTL version.

CTS2-LE provides the (currently valid) 2015 release of the KTL.

KTL Loader

Both KTL terminologies can be loaded into CTS2-LE using the CTS2-LE FHIR loader.

For generating FHIR encoded versions of the KTL terminologies the OntoDL-Interpreter is needed:

  • Time Duration codes are available as a Word document which can be transcoded into a FHIR ValueSet object using the standard OntoDL-Interpreter.
  • KTL Codes must first be copied into the Word Document "KTL from PDF.docm" from the PDF KTL handbook. The copy mode "text only" must be used. A Word Makro "KTL2Word" embedded with the document generates a new document "KTL formatted.docx" that is formatted using the template "KTL from PDF template.dotx". The content of this document must then be copied into the document "KTL formatted OntoDL.docx" that contains the OntoDL statements for transforming the document into the FHIR format.
