An overview of DRM\/Codec support in 2021&#8221;<\/a>. If you still need to support Smart TV devices older than 2020 it is still not the end of &#8216;cenc&#8217;, but with time, these devices will phase out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what are the key changes since 2021? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>New Audio Codec Column:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A new audio codec column has been added, in addition to the existing video codec column.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Often overlooked in these types of analyses, we keep it simple for now with &#8216;AAC&#8217; and &#8216;AC-3&#8217;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In terms of DRM, especially the higher security levels apply to video tracks, as audio tracks are typically encrypted with the lowest security level<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More Device Support for HEVC and AV1:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Note the increased support for HEVC and AV1 across more devices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, combining these codecs with DRM is currently a work in progress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>MMS for iOS:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The introduction of Managed Media Source (MMS) on iOS does not have implications on additional DRM or codec support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, it raises iOS player development to the same level as iPadOS and macOS &#8211; fragmentation no more <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Community Engagement:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thanks to the community for providing comments in the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1I67ZuuMb23iu0FcEN_DhIgbay2Vcbk4dySYitLSCzPo\/edit?pli=1#gid=0\">evergreen Google Sheet<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feel free to continue providing comments.
