Whether you&#8217;re evaluating MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> studio or have purchased a license, activating MIKAIA is is an easy and straightforward process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> is a Windows 64-bit software available in two editions: MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> lite and MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> studio. Alternatively, we offer single-user or multi-user floating licenses. In the latter case, the activation file is imported onto a server within your network, allowing MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> to be installed on any computer in your network or a home office laptop connected via VPN. It installs all required files in the local program files directory and creates shortcuts in the Start menu and on the desktop. Uninstallation can be performed through the built-in Windows uninstallation procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>portable<\/strong> version is a ZIP file containing the required files and can be extracted to any location. A small caveat is that is does not install the CodeMeter runtime automatically, which is required to generate license request files or import license files. The \u201cCodeMeter\u201d runtime is installed automatically as part of the MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> installation. When the MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Portable deployment method is used, which does not involve an installation, the CodeMeter runtime needs to be manually installed (unless it is already installed on the computer, e.g., from a previous MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> installation). The CodeMeter installer is contained within the MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Portable Zip archive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The activation process can be completed offline, meaning that generally, no internet connection is required. The activation requires 2 steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"671\" height=\"68\" src=\"https:\/\/websites.fraunhofer.de\/smart-sensing-insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/websites.fraunhofer.de\/smart-sensing-insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5.png 671w, https:\/\/websites.fraunhofer.de\/smart-sensing-insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5-300x30.png 300w, https:\/\/websites.fraunhofer.de\/smart-sensing-insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5-370x37.png 370w, https:\/\/websites.fraunhofer.de\/smart-sensing-insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5-270x27.png 270w, https:\/\/websites.fraunhofer.de\/smart-sensing-insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5-570x58.png 570w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 671px) 100vw, 671px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On the designated MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> computer (or license server in case of a floating or network license), the user generates an \u201cActivation Request File\u201d (*.licreq) that includes the computer\u2019s unique fingerprint. The file needs to be emailed to mikaia@iis.fraunhofer.de or your sales contact.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Based on the \u201cActivation Request File\u201d, we will issue an \u201cActivation File\u201d (*.lic) and return it by email. This file can only be successfully imported on the computer where the request file has been generated. The activation file contains details on which features are unlocked and for how long.<br>(<strong>Attention<\/strong>: Do not issue any additional request files. Importing an activation file works only if it was created based on the activation request file that was created last on the target computer.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the activation file is imported into MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, the software is unlocked and its name changes from <em>MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> lite<\/em> to <em>MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> studio<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Network_Site_License\"><\/span>Network \/ Site License<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Activating a network license is similar to activating a single node-locked license. The returned Activation File indicates whether it is node-locked and specifies the number of parallel users allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a network license, the Activation File must be requested and imported on a computer that remains powered on. It is not necessary to open MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> on this computer, as the CodeMeter service operates in the background, ready to respond to activation queries from other (client) computers. Ensure that the server is made &#8220;visible&#8221; to other computers (<a href=\"https:\/\/websites.fraunhofer.de\/smart-sensing-insights\/?p=4254#How_to_make_the_license_server_%E2%80%9Cvisible%E2%80%9D_to_other_computers_in_the_network\">see instructions below<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> can then be installed on any computer within the same network or virtual network. The MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> instances are referred to as \u201cclients\u201d, while the instance where the Activation File was imported functions as the \u201clicense server.\u201d When a MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> client is run on a computer within the same local network, it will automatically detect the license server. The \u201cLicense Info\u201d dialog will display \u201cNetwork\u201d in the \u201cType\u201d column. If the number of network users is limited to ten, up to ten users can simultaneously start MIKAIA<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> on different computers.
