We present which e-learning standards can provide a solution to heterogeneous e-learning system environments. We show that in an open, modular architecture in the form of a comprehensive middleware solution. The topicality of this topic is also reflected in the efforts made worldwide to develop and define uniform standards, such as xAPI, LTI, CALIPER, CC, etc. ILIAS itself supports some of these formats, such as LTI for coupling LMS. This presentation introduces the current standards and presents an e-learning middleware solution in the form of a web-based, open architecture. The development of this middleware is aligned at typical use cases, for example the coupling of ILIAS with other LMS or serious games. The characteristics of the use cases representatively reflect the current challenges in companies.

Adaptive Learning Games using Eye-Tracking and A.I.

Alexander Streicher, Sebastian Leidig, LEARNTEC 2020, Januar 2020, Karlsruhe [ PDF ]

This presentation introduces a new approach to adaptivity in serious games and digital learning games using eye or gaze tracking. However, the inherent variability of adaptive systems can make test case development tedious and inflexible to maintain. This paper presents a concept for an interoperable, flexible testing tool for adaptive e-learning system development and systematic testing of xAPI compliant e-learning systems. It provides visual inspection and editing functionalities, xAPI simulation, and checks for adaptivity responses. This enables the systematic testing of adaptive systems and an improved development process. An xAPI recording functionality combined with a visualization of the usage flow helps in the test case development. A prototype implementation in a serious game for image interpretation verifies the concept. The concept is domain independent and valid for any xAPI compliant system.

VIEW: A Concept for an Immersive Virtual Reality Image Interpretation Workbench

Conference Theory and Practice of Modern Computing TPMC, MCCSIS, Porto, Portugal, July 2019 [ PDF ]

Virtual Reality (VR) and serious gaming can increase the learning motivation and outcome in image interpretation. This paper presents the concept of an VR game-like assistance system called Virtual Reality Image Exploitation Workspace (VIEW). It can be used to evaluate the learning-supporting immersion or presence level of image interpreters while solving typical interpretation tasks. The problem statement is centered on the realization aspects of a VR assistance system for image interpretation which provides a high level of immersion. This work combines the setting of a real serious game for formal image interpretation training with virtual reality to increase the immersion level of the users. Enhanced image quality and organizational requirements from professional image interpretation impose additional complexity on VR for image interpretation. The presented VIEW concept deals with multiple aspects on e-learning, professional training and virtual reality for image interpretation. Preliminary evaluation results from a realized prototype show the feasibility and user acceptance of the VIEW concept.

E-Learning Artificial Intelligence for Simulations and Serious Games in Image Interpretation

EDA A.I. While resources for new courses are often freely available, they are generally not properly structured into easy to handle units. In this paper, we investigate how state of the art text segmentation algorithms can be applied to automatically transform unstructured text into coherent pieces appropriate for e-learning courses. The feasibility to course generation is validated on a test corpus specifically tailored to this scenario. We also introduce a more generic training and testing method for text segmentation algorithms based on a Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic model. In addition we introduce a scalable random text segmentation algorithm, in order to establish lower and upper bounds to be able to evaluate segmentation results on a common basis.

* In Anbetracht unserer Verpflichtung zum Schutz von Datenschutz und Sicherheit werden auf dieser Webseite nur sorgfältig ausgewählte Vorträge und Präsentationen präsentiert.
