Der Sommer neigt sich dem Ende und ich, Ada Lovelace, melde mich aus der Sommerpause zur\u00fcck: Die Zeit haben wir genutzt die Ereignisse des ersten Halbjahres und insbesondere des Fr\u00fchsommers zu rekapitulieren, und wie es mit Erinnerungen so oft ist, bleiben einem Highlights ganz gut im Ged\u00e4chtnis. Eines davon aus den Wochen vor der Sommerpause m\u00f6chte ich gerne nochmal mit euch teilen, denn im letzten Beitrag war die Vorfreue darauf schon gro\u00df:<\/p>\n

#ADAunterwegs auf der automatica mit der Gruppe \u00bbData Efficient Automated Learning\u00ab
\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Nichts geht \u00fcber den Austausch zwischen Wissenschaft und Praxis! Daher war der Messebesuch auf der automatica ein besonderes Highlight f\u00fcr mich und die Wissenschaftler*innen der Gruppe Data Efficient Automated Learning (DEAL). Dass es bei der automatica neben den Themen Automatisierung und Robotik dieses Jahr vor allem um KI und Nachhaltigkeit ging, wurde in den riesigen Messehallen in M\u00fcnchen schnell ersichtlich: Es tummelten sich wie immer viele Roboter und beeindruckende Maschinen, aber an etlichen St\u00e4nden drehten sich die Gespr\u00e4che um einen verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit Ressourcen und die Zukunft der Produktion im Zeitalter der Digitalisierung.<\/p>\n

Da reihte sich die Gruppe DEAL des Fraunhofer IIS, Teil des ADA Lovelace Center, mit ihrem Thema Effizienz in der KI sehr gut ein! Die Gruppe entwickelt zum einen Methoden, die besonderen Wert auf Dateneffizienz legen. Somit kann KI auch in Situationen, in denen wenige oder qualitativ nicht so hochwertige Daten verf\u00fcgbar sind, gute Ergebnisse erzielen. Zum anderen besch\u00e4ftigt sich die Gruppe mit der Automatisierung von KI-Prozessen: Die manuelle Arbeit, die f\u00fcr das Erstellen von KI-Modellen notwendig ist, wird minimiert und Expert*innen k\u00f6nnen sich auf wichtige Dinge konzentrieren und ihre Expertise gezielt einsetzen. Weitere Themen der Gruppe sind der Transfer von KI-Modellen auf neue Szenarien und die Operationalisierung von KI.<\/p>\n

Den neuen Demonstrator \u00bbEfficent.AI\u00ab im Gep\u00e4ck<\/h3>\n

Besonders gefallen hat mir der Demonstrator, den die Wissenschaftler*innen dabei hatten: KI-Methoden anschaulich zu erkl\u00e4ren ist gar nicht so einfach, aber der Demonstrator \u00bbEfficient.AI\u00ab gibt eine tolle Einf\u00fchrung in die Themen der Gruppe. Das integrierte Spiel \u00bbBeat the ML\u00ab lie\u00df Standbesucher*innen gegen ein automatisiertes KI System antreten. Spieler*innen m\u00fcssen \u00fcber mehrere Versuche ihr eigenes KI-Modell konfigurieren und sich dann mit der automatisierten L\u00f6sung messen.<\/p>\n

Wer jetzt neugierig geworden ist, kann es selbst einmal versuchen und sich dabei \u00fcber die Themen der Gruppe DEAL, also alles was mit Effizienz von KI innerhalb des Machine Learning-Lifecycles zu tun hat, informieren. Den Demonstrator gibt es n\u00e4mlich jetzt als Online-Version<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Mein Fazit: es war ein voller Erfolg!<\/h3>\n

Ich konnte auf der Messe miterleben, auf wieviel Resonanz die Themen und L\u00f6sungen auch bei den Besucher*innen aus der Industrie gesto\u00dfen sind. Es gab einige spannende Gespr\u00e4che unserer Wissenschaftler*innen zu verschiedensten Anwedungsf\u00e4llen: Von Dateneffizienz bei der KI-gesteuerten Unkrautvernichtung im Kontext der Agrarwirtschaft bis hin zur automatisierten Wartung von teuren Maschinen in der Seilproduktion war alles dabei!<\/p>\n

Au\u00dferdem interessant war die LIVE-Session \u00bbKI in der Anwendung \u2013 mit MLOps ein Kinderspiel?\u00ab mit dem Fraunhofer-Experten Dr. Henning Frechen und Markus Schatz vom Projektpartner senswork GmbH, bei der sie das Projekt \u00bbDemokratisierung von KI mit verst\u00e4ndlichem und einfach zug\u00e4nglichem Machine Learning Operations (MLOps)\u00ab<\/a> vorstelleten. The “Efficient.AI” demonstrator as a highlight of automatica now also ONLINE<\/h1>\n

The summer is coming to an end and I, Ada Lovelace, am back from my summer break: we used the time to recap the events of the first half of the year and especially of the early summer, and as it is often the case with memories, highlights stay in your mind quite well. I would like to share one of them from the weeks before the summer break with you again, because the anticipation was already high in the last article:<\/p>\n

#ADAunderway at automatica with the Data Efficient Automated Learning group.<\/h3>\n

Nothing beats the exchange between science and practice! That’s why the trade fair visit to automatica was a special highlight for me and the scientists of the Data Efficient Automated Learning (DEAL) group. The fact that, in addition to the topics of automation and robotics, this year’s automatica was primarily about AI and sustainability quickly became apparent in the huge exhibition halls in Munich: as always, there were many robots and impressive machines, but at several booths the conversations revolved around the responsible use of resources and the future of production in the age of digitalization.<\/p>\n

The DEAL group of Fraunhofer IIS, part of the ADA Lovelace Center, fit in very well with their topic of efficiency in AI! On the one hand, the group develops methods that place particular emphasis on data efficiency. Thus, AI can achieve good results even in situations where little or not so high-quality data is available. On the other hand, the group is working on the automation of AI processes: The manual work required to create AI models is minimised and experts can concentrate on important things and use their expertise in a targeted manner. Other topics of the group are the transfer of AI models to new scenarios and the operationalization of AI.<\/p>\n

The new demonstrator “Efficent.AI”<\/h3>\n

I particularly liked the demonstrator that the scientists had with them: explaining AI methods clearly is not that easy, but the demonstrator “Efficient.AI” gives a great introduction to the topics of the group. The integrated game “Beat the ML” let visitors compete against an automated AI system. Players had to configure their own AI model over several attempts and then compete with the automated solution. If you are now curious, you can try it yourself and find out about the topics of the DEAL group, i.e. everything that has to do with the efficiency of AI within the machine learning lifecycle. The demonstrator is now available as an online version<\/a>!<\/p>\n

My conclusion: it was a complete success!<\/h3>\n

At the fair, I was able to see how much resonance the topics and solutions had with visitors from industry. There were some exciting discussions between our scientists on a wide range of applications: From data efficiency in AI-controlled weed control in the context of agriculture to automated maintenance of expensive machines in rope production, everything was there!<\/p>\n
