Several techniques have been proposed to reduce material consumption by creating internal voids or otherwise creating statically stable hollow objects. This thesis investigates one such recent technique, “Ribbed support vaults for 3D printing of hollowed objects” by Tricard et al., via implementation and extension to different printing technologies. Scientific evaluation involves comparison to alternatives along different criteria for different print technologies.

More info.

Ribbed support structure generation for 3D print hollow objects Reducing print time and material consumption are important considerations in 3D printing.
