About

Fraunhofer IWES – We research for wind energy

We have been the central contact for competent and innovative technology development in the wind energy sector since 2009, with both national and international companies putting their trust in our expertise and scientific independence. With more than 300 employees and 150 students in our ranks, we are making an active contribution to the energy transition.

Our vision: a 100% energy supply from renewable energies and thus a livable global future.

The aim of our blog is to allow everyone interested to inform themselves about a wide range of topics and to offer an insight into our research activities and results.

Our scientists secure investments in technological developments through validation, shorten innovation cycles, accelerate certification procedures, and increase planning accuracy by means of innovative measurement methods in the wind energy and hydrogen technology sectors. In this way, we unite scientific expertise with a comprehensive and globally unique testing infrastructure in addition to developing digital solutions for our customers.

Our scientists in Bremen, Bremerhaven, Bochum, Görlitz, Hamburg, Hannover, Leer, Leuna und Oldenburg report on the following topics among others:

Rotor blade and nacelle testing, hydrogen technology, aerodynamics, wind farm development, field measurements, support structures, validation and reliability, large bearing testing, system technology and validation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us! We look forward to interesting discussions and sharing our experiences.
