=== The PTKL will be organized in layers, as follows: ===

* "Energy Consumption Layer" - will include the identification of energy consumers based on the terminal and port process map, quantification of the energy consumption levels and potential areas of energy saving

* "Energy Supply Layer" - will include alternatives for external supply of regenerative energy, production of regenerative energy on site, exploitation of LNG and other gas and shore-based power supply to berthed ships

* "Energy Management Layer" - will include strategies for optimizing the management of energy and supply in ports and terminals  such as load shedding and the use of smart grids

The GREEN EFFORTS PTKL can be described as a visualised knowledge presentation system based on advanced content management and visualisation technologies. Further research within this project will show if it is possible to allow users to edit the system, i.e. adding and deleting own information of distinct data types, without thorough software skills. This would allow adapting the PTKL to individual terminals and ports and using it for strategic planning and decision-making. The PTKL also shall serve as a training tool for terminal and port staff.
