CMM Utilisation Opportunities
The major part of methane in coal mines is gas deliberating from the broken coal in the surroundings of the longwall and from dug part of the mine. Depending on the quality CMM can be divided into 3 classes of utilisation, as shown in the tabel below.
| High-Quality Gas
> 50 % CH4 |
Medium-Quality Gas
25% < CH4 < 50% |
Low-Quality Gas
< 4% CH4 |
|---|---|---|
| • Natural gas pipelines
|
• Power generation
• Heat generation • Combined heat & power generation • Boiler fuel • Coal mine heating • Ventilation air heating • Coal drying • District heating • Industrial applications • Fuel cells |
• Thermal Oxidation
|
Of course, the high quality gases are also used instead of the medium quality gases. If CMM is used as a replacement of natural gas a chemical treatment is necessary to conzentrade the methane.
