Other Definitions

The security incident management cycle encompasses the following seven elements:

  • Pro-action, the structural removal of insecurity and dangerous situations.
  • Prevention, actions to avoid an incident or to intervene to stop an incident from occurring.
  • Preparation, the planning, training and exercising.
  • (Incident) Response, activities in response to the immediate and short-term effects, and to prevent further damage after an incident occurs.
  • Recovery
  • Aftercare: mitigate the psycho-sociological impact of an incident to (parts of) the population, and (optionally) incident reporting and the identification of the lessons identified)

In case of a (possible) deliberate act in parallel when a (potential) incident occurs:

  • forensic analysis, criminal investigation, and the prosecution of suspects.
