Participation in the survey is voluntary. All responses will be treated confidentially.
In order to fill out our survey, you will be asked to generate a personal code. This code is designed in such a way that we cannot link it to your person without considerable effort, unless you provide us with the generated code.
The personal code, which we cannot trace back to you without your help, can be used by you to make use of your legal rights and will not be used by us for any other reason than enabling you to make use of your legal rights.
To make use of your rights, please contact us by email. You will then be asked to generate your personal code again. Only with the help of this code, can we clearly identify your data and delete it as quickly as possible (within two weeks at the latest).
Usually, no personal data is collected when answering the questions of our survey. Insofar as the choice or wording of the answers makes it possible to draw conclusions about the person of the participant, data processing is carried out to protect our legitimate interests in accordance with Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR. The survey serves to assess potential difficulties with functionalities and information available on the ECDIS. Thereby, the usability of current ECDIS systems is researched and efforts will be undertaken to improve their usability. Herein, legitimate interests in line with the above mentioned regulation are to be recognized.
We store the questions and answers of the survey. In addition, the results are evaluated and analyzed anonymously by Fraunhofer employees.
Your answers will be completely anonymized or deleted as soon as we have finished data evaluation and investigated the research question underlying the project. Unless there are reasons that justify longer storage (for example, if you have given your consent in accordance with Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR).
The documentation and possible publication of survey results will be done exclusively in anonymized form, without mentioning your name and without providing any information that might allow conclusions to be drawn about your person.

If your personal data are processed on the basis of legitimate interests pursuant to Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR, you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data pursuant to Art. 21 GDPR, provided there are reasons for objecting arising from your special situation or your objection is directed against the processing of data for the purpose of direct marketing. In the latter case, you have a general right to object, which will be exercised by us without the need to indicate a special situation.

All your personally submitted data are transmitted in encrypted format, using the widely used and secure SSL (Secure Socket Layer) standard.
In all other regards, we use suitable technical and organizational security measures to protect your data against accidental or intentional manipulations, partial or complete loss, destruction, or the unauthorized access of third parties. We continuously improve our security measures in accordance with the state of the art.
